Denise Flynn

From the age of four, Denise has danced competitively for Inis Ealga & The Marie Duffy School of Irish Dance based in Dublin, Ireland. She received numerous titles throughout her career including All-Ireland, Regional, 14 Gold World titles for team dancing and her highest solo ranking was runner-up in the World Championship’s in 1989 aged 13.

At age 12 Denise was performing weekly in Jury’s Irish Cabaret in Dublin. Then at 17 years of age she toured North America and Ireland with Comhaltas Ceolteori Eireann who are one of the largest cultural groups involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music around the world.

In 1996 Denise joined the original cast of “Lord of The Dance” with Michael Flatley and performed in this show for a period of 5 years. During this time she toured Australia, North America, Canada, Japan, South Africa and throughout Europe and performed on numerous television shows worldwide, the original DVD recording filmed at The Point Depot, Dublin and ‘The Making of Lord of the Dance’. Denise was also an original member of the “Feet of Flames” cast that performed at Hyde Park in London to an audience in excess of 25,000 and live recording of this DVD.

In 2003 Denise performed with Riverdance for the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Croke Park, Dublin. This ceremony was broadcast live to over 35 countries around the world featuring the longest line of dancers ever seen in an Irish dance show; over 100 dancers!

July 2013 broke the world record and Denise was delighted to be part of 1693 dancers who performed this Riverdance longest line along the banks of the River Liffey in Dublin as part of the ‘Riverdance Gathering’ weekend.

Since leaving her touring years behind in 2001, Denise performed as a solo dancer with the world-renowned choral group, ‘Anuna’ and it was through this experience and working closely with their corporate director John McGlynn, she realized there was a gap in this market for professional Irish dancers.

She founded an Irish dance company she aptly named ‘Damhsa’ (being the Irish for dance). During her time with this company Denise has choreographed performances for corporate events in Norway, Belgium, France and Russia and directed a production to perform for a month’s season on the World Stage of Cultures in Dubai UAE.

Denise is the creative mind behind the production of the Barberstown Castle Medieval/Celtic Banquet and co-produced ‘Belvedere Irish Nights’ at the Belvedere Hotel, Dublin; winner of the certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor in 2015.

She represented the company in the Irish Dance documentary ‘Strictly Irish Dance’ for TV3; the group then came runner-up in the series ‘Glas Vegas’ on TV4 and performed alongside the Chieftains for HRH Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Ireland in May 2011 and HRH Prince Charles and Camilla visit to Galway just before Denise left the company in May 2015.

In 2011, Denise got to pursue a lifelong dream to co-create and choreograph a touring Irish dance and music production called ‘Irish Celtic’ The Spirit of Ireland. Managing up to 18 dancers and musicians she worked with the production team full time until November 2014 when she returned again to Dublin to pursue other projects. During her time with this production the Show had successful tour runs in France, Germany, Spain and Russia showcasing the origins of Irish dance and culture from the ‘old style to the new style’ and its authentic roots in the West of Ireland.

She assisted in producing a live recording and ‘Behind the Scenes’ DVD filmed in Casino de Paris, France, represented the company with local touring promoters and on PR events in Ireland and Europe. She even returned to the stage for 68 shows as part of the ‘Generation’s Tour’ original cast in 2013-2014, a highlight of which was performing in a sell out performance at Palais des Congres, Paris with over 6,000 people in attendance.

Denise has collaborated with some of Ireland’s leading artists and continues to assist in the provision of high-end entertainment for corporate events.

Co-Founder of BeatBuzz with James Devine, this act was awarded ‘Best Corporate Entertainer’ at the Event Industry Awards 2015.

In 2016, Denise produced a new production in collaboration with John McGlynn and Anuna Corporate called Origin.
